Early June in Seattle typically makes us wish for sun. Our gray, wet and cool weather seems to go on and on. We are blessed if we have a hot day in later July or August. When I was a child, I wished for a sunny day warm enough for a dip in the lake. This year, my dreams for sunny weather came true. The first week of June, temperatures in Seattle broke records.
June 3rd, Seattle’s temperatures hit a record high of 89 degrees, two degrees higher than the previous June 3 record, set in 1978, according to the National Weather Service. The bright warm sun delighted Seattle residents. The flowers responded by opening their buds and adding brilliant color to the landscape.
Lavender, a sun worshipping plant, roused from its long dormant period. Its tall spiky stems reach up towards the sun and add grace, color and fragrance to the garden. This picture shows my garden, the cosmos provides a sharp contrast with the pale lavender. |
